After 7 years of service, I finally retired my first at home build to get something with a bit more power behind it. Today I finished putting the pieces together into a new case and transferred my windows licence. I had to do a fair bit of research as I’m not as up-to-date on hardware as I’d like but the process was a lot of fun and a lot of learning. I hadn’t even heard of the latest storage form factor M.2 or the interface NVMe!

I ticked off another of my bucket list and flew to sin city itself, Las Vegas. Once again I put my video editing skills to use and made myself a montage of the things I saw which you can check out below. Vegas really is a crazy place with what it seems like more money than knowing what to do with it, in one instance I saw the night sky being lit up by flame throwers whilst homeless people gathered on the edges of the show for warmth. Certainly an eye opening place and one I might return to someday.

A few friends of mine who are going through university were discussing a major pain point for their projects. For their larger projects, they needed to produce an index file which would list and link each of their files and provide information as to what it was for and how it was to be used. Annoying but necessary for projects where directories can be in the hundreds and total files in the thousands. I couldn’t help them naming what those files might be for but I could help with the listing part.
In steps the indexer, a small go executable which can create an index.html file, with click open/close folders, listing each directory and all sub-directories and files within. A quick and dirty example of automating a tedious job!

After having decided I needed to get out of my comfort zone of holidaying in Europe, the proverbial dart landed on the Globe at Bali, Indonesia. To get further into video editing I bought myself an action camera, which I almost had stolen by a monkey, and decided to capture my trip. The link below is my creation after editing down hundreds of hours of footage to just six minutes. A lot of learning which I’m going to use to do even better next time, hope you enjoy!
